Fatal Counterattack - Chapter 6: Full Understanding
“Although I’m a police officer, I still have to admit, you are a little bit smart.”
After placing Zhang Zichen on the interrogation chair, Cheng Ze sat beside the desk in front of him and stared at him.
Zhang Zichen didn’t reply to Cheng Ze’s comment, he just smiled. Then he looked up at the security camera and knew that this camera could not record voices. This was why Cheng Ze could say whatever he wanted casually.
“When I was still under training, I read The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. But I was learning all methods of investigating and solving cases instead of the logic and psychological perspectives. Especially the type of little tricks that you use.”
Cheng Ze, who was still a bit angry just now, seemed to be a bit more patient after Zhang Zichen explained everything. He wasn’t in a hurry to learn about the case anymore.
“It’s not little tricks, I’m just telling the truths that logic told me. And about this Sherlock Holmes book, I respect the book and the author, but I don’t think it’s the right time to talk about it. I feel like we should talk about this…”
Zhang Zichen said as he pointed towards his handcuffed hands with his chin.
“Oh? Are you ready to explain?”
“I’m not I’m ready or not, but I have something to do at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning. Although I have…uh… nothing to do with that, I just want to leave as soon as possible. I looked at the clock while passing the lobby, it’s already almost one.”
“Who do you think you are? You think you are clever, don’t you? Well, let me remind you, you’re in the police station and you’re a suspect!”
After hearing Zhang Zichen’s boring words, Cheng Ze returned to a policeman who was full of justice and seriousness again.
“Nonono, my plan now is to talk to you.”
No matter what Cheng Ze said, Zhang Zichen always looked at him with his calm face as if he had already guessed what he was going to say.
“Now clean up your little tricks and stop talking about plans with me. In the police station, there is no room for your plans. If you are actually smart, then you should know what you need to explain now.”
“My plan is to explain to you. I mean, since I need to do something tomorrow morning and you still have other business as well, why don’t we do a trade? I’ll help you find the real murder, and you let me go a bit earlier. Just please make sure I get out before seven in the morning.”
“Find the murderer….”
Cheng Ze sneered. Zhang Zichen was the first “interesting” person he had met. As the biggest suspect in this murder case, he was even bargaining with the police without any hesitation.
“You can’t find any detailed photos of the scene here let alone do any investigation. If we do the trade, you can find the murderer and then come back to let me go. Since I’m locked here, I wouldn’t be able to escape either. For you, there is no loss at all, and you even get a chance to prove yourself worthy. What do you think? Consider it?”
Zhang Zichen’s words were light and his voice made people very comfortable.
“Consider? Consider dreaming with you? Who do you think you are? You think you can do this?”
As an outstanding student who just graduated from a police school, Cheng Ze would not believe such a fantasy made up by this kid.
“Of course I can do it. Luo Yang, Captain Luo is so busy right now, do you still want to trouble him?”
Since he had already pulled the trump card, it wouldn’t hurt to add some toppings. Zhang Zichen’s eyes sank as he said casually.
Cheng Ze’s eyes suddenly became even more serious. The sneer on his mouth immediately disappeared as he sat upright.
“You… you saw his sign? No… I took you on a different route… Do you know Captain Lou? Where did you see his name?”
“Okay okay, you don’t have to keep guessing. When we passed the office lobby just now, Captain Lou Yang was signing a document. Although we were very far away from him and we couldn’t see the words on the document, I noticed that the person brought the paper to him straight from the printer. He flipped all the way to the last page and pointed there obviously telling Captain Luo to sign the paper there.
“If I remember correctly, it is not allowed for official documents to be signed in cursive in police departments. When we entered, you called him Captain Luo, so I don’t need to worry about his first name. I watched the pen move and from the gestures, I could tell that his last name is the word ‘Yang’.”
While Zhang Zichen was explaining, Cheng Ze’s face changed several times. Finally, his expression said, it’s that easy? How come I never noticed or even thought about it?
Cheng Ze leaned his chin on his palm and stared at Zhang Zichen under the lights. He thought about the trade Zhang Zichen talked about earlier.
“Didn’t you say you had a plan? Now we are done talking, big detective, what’s your plan next?”
“What else? Of course I’ll just tell you where the murderer is. Do you want to do the trade? You don’t have much time.”
Slap!
Cheng Ze couldn’t sit still anymore. He slammed the table and startled Zhang Zichen, who was rubbing his nose with his eyes closed.
