The Golden Age - Chapter 82: Phantom Attackers
Everyone knew that the Tusun people were excellent riders and shooters. In the open grasslands, almost nothing could stop them.
They could take advantage of the wide-open space, but once they fall into a stalemate, their weaknesses would soon be exposed.
These riders were not used to the mountain and forest environment.
The Eldest Son and the others were obviously quite familiar with the mountain terrain. On top of that, they have constantly been hunting in this mountain, therefore, they had quite some advantage against the Tusun riders.
Because of this, after hearing Qin Xiao’s request to go into the mountains, the Eldest Son immediately knew why.
Although they only had four people including Qin Xiao and had an absolute disadvantage in terms of manpower, this disadvantage was greatly reduced due to their geographical knowledge.
Under the command of the Eldest Son, Pang Yu and Zhao Yi surrounded the enemy like phantoms from both the left and the right side,
They were excellent hunters in the mountains, so they knew exactly how to avoid being noticed by their prey. At this time, the three Tusun riders were already their prey.
The Eldest Son leaned against the tree and took a deep breath. After estimating that his two men should be in position, he suddenly appeared from behind the tree.
The three Tusun riders were already close by. After seeing the Eldest Son, all of them were completely filled with joy. One of them rushed towards the Eldest Son with his saber and the two others quickly followed.
Without hesitation, the Eldest Son greeted them with his own saber. The Tusun rider in the front was already on top of him chopping down. The Eldest Son held his saber to block it. Clangggg!
The sabers rubbed against each other and made a loud noise as sparks flashed. The other two Tusun riders also charged towards him from both the left and right sides.
At this moment, Pang Yu and Zhao Yi dashed out of the darkness like two hungry wolves and jumped out from behind onto the Tusun riders. Before they even knew what was going on, the sabers had already gone straight through their heads.
With blood gushing everywhere, the Tusun riders had their heads split open without even having a chance to fight back.
The rider who was fighting with the Eldest Son saw his two companions get killed and panicked. The Eldest Son took the chance and he lifted his foot to kick the rider. Before the rider even had the chance to yell, the Eldest Son had already sliced his saber across his neck.
Three Tusun riders were all killed almost in the blink of an eye.
Suddenly, Pang Yu yelled, “Watch out!”
Almost at the same time, the Eldest Son had already felt a strong gust of wind coming from behind him. He turned his head around, only to see an arrow coming towards him at full speed. It was already too late to dodge.
But suddenly, a figure appeared. Just when the sharp arrow was about to hit the Eldest Son, the figure reached out his hand and grabbed the arrow midair.
Pang Yu did not hesitate at all. He threw his saber fiercely in the direction where the arrow came from. Like a shooting star, the knife stabbed through the rider who shot the arrow.
The Eldest Son was shivering in fear. Only then did he see clearly that it was the little beggar who was grabbing onto the sharp arrow.
Qin Xiao was also just as shocked.
When the Eldest Son was killing the Tusun rider, Qin Xiao was just a few steps behind the Eldest Son. When the arrow shot towards the Eldest Son, Qin Xiao was able to sense it a lot earlier. He knew that the Eldest Son most likely wouldn’t be able to dodge the arrow. He wanted to walk forward and push the Eldest Son away, but his reflexes told him to go grab the arrow. Though he himself didn’t even expect himself to actually be able to grab it while it was still flying.
Qin Xiao surprised himself when he looked at the arrow in his hands. He never thought he would ever be fast enough to do such a thing.
“That’s incredible,” The Eldest Son exclaimed.
He patted Qin Xiao on the shoulder and whispered, “Let’s keep going. Lead these bastards to the depths of the forest and finish all of them off.”
Pang Yu just threw his saber out to kill the rider. At this time, he picked up one of Tusun rider’s sabers and replied, “Let’s go.”
Qin Xiao also picked up a saber from the ground, knowing that it might come in handy in a situation like this.
Although the Tusun riders had an advantage in numbers, in the forest, they became the prey of the Eldest Son. On top of that, they had already split into groups of three to look around, making them even more vulnerable.
In less than an hour, the Eldest Son and the others were like phantom attackers, appearing from the shadows, and finished off over a dozen Tusun riders already.
However, the Tusun riders soon realized that their plan was not effective. Someone blew a loud horn and the remaining less than a dozen or so riders gathered together.
What made the Tusun riders angrier was that most of them barely even got to see the enemy’s appearance, and nearly half of their companions had already perished.
Not only did this make them angry, but it also made them afraid.
By now, the riders who were already deep into the forests seemed to have all realized that they were the prey. Even though they had more people, they were afraid even when the wind blew on the leaves and made some noise. They became a group of frightened birds.
What made it worse was that they couldn’t tell the direction. Looking around, it was forest everywhere. Amongst the darkness, it seemed as if someone was watching them. Like a ghost, who was ready to take their lives.
A few riders didn’t dare to keep walking. They wanted to turn back, but couldn’t tell which way they came from.
In the open grasslands, as long as their target is located, they have countless ways to kill it.
Dragons swim in the sea, tigers roar in the mountains.
Although they were strong, they suddenly felt helpless in this forest. Tusun riders were known for riding and shooting skills. But now they could use neither in the forest. They are as good as defenseless.
At this time, they no longer had their original intention to kill the Eldest Son. Instead, they only hoped that they could make it out of the forest alive.
Puff!
After hearing a muffled sound, one of the Tusun riders looked around to see where the sound came from, only to see one of his companions being shot in the neck.
Another Tusun rider raised his finger towards the left and screamed. Several people rushed over there, but only after a few steps, two more screams came. This time, it came from behind them. The riders who were about to go to the left side turned their head around and found two more of their companions shot in the neck.
The arrows came from two completely different directions.
The riders suddenly didn’t know where to chase. The group of people gave up trying to chase and simply took out their sabers and started to chop the air in front of them, hoping to hit something.
After chasing for so long, many of the riders were already exhausted. Not only physically, but also mentally.
Two or three of the Tusun riders can no longer stand it. They stopped walking forward, and instead, they turned and ran back. Even though they weren’t even sure what direction they were running in, they didn’t care. All they knew was that they must leave this damned forest as soon as possible.
After they ran, the other riders were still confused as to what was going on. They thought that the runaways had seen something terrifying, and without a second thought, they also ran for their lives. As if they were a group of threatened sheep, no one cared about anyone at this point.
One of the Tusun riders ran a dozen steps or so. But a shadow suddenly sprang out from behind a tree. Without a word, he raised his saber and slammed it down. The rider made a short yell, but his neck was already in half before he was able to finish it.
After hearing his yell, the others were even more afraid.
They absolutely did not care about anything anymore. They kept trying to run faster and faster.
At this time, Qin Xiao was still with the Eldest Son.
From the prey to the predator. This change of roles made Qin xiao quite excited.
Back when the Tang Empire was under attack from Tusun, countless citizens died under the blades of the Tusun people. Unlike when Xiling was fighting Wutuo, the people got directly threatened by the Tusun army. Therefore, the hate within the Tusun people was far beyond that of the Wutuo people.
Although Qin Xiao grew up in Xiling, he always regarded himself as every other citizen of the Tang Empire. He hated the Tusun people, who brought so much bloodshed to the Tang Empire, just as much as everyone else of the Tang Empire.
Tonight, while working with the Eldest Son, although they had a disadvantage in the beginning, that soon changed. Right now, this forest became a nightmare for the Tusun riders. Qin Xiao had an indescribable sense of happiness inside of him while seeing the riders suffering.
After more than half a night of battle, the Tusun riders were completely overwhelmed already. However, the Eldest Son did not want to leave a single one of them.
Qin Xiao held his saber and followed behind the Eldest Son. Although he also wanted to kill a few Tusun riders with his own hands, he knew that he had already surprised the Eldest Son by grabbing that arrow. If he did anything more, it would make him more and more suspicious.
After all, his current identity was just a small beggar. If he revealed his abilities, then the beggar’s lie wouldn’t work anymore.
Although he was fighting side by side with the Eldest Son at the moment, he still wasn’t sure who this Eldest Son was.
Being able to be called the “Eldest Son” and having such a group of capable people under his hands, this Eldest Son must be someone who had quite a bit of power. And he must be from a large family in Xiling too.
He had not forgotten that the Zhen Family was part of the three Xiling Menfa. If this Eldest Son was also a Menfa family, then he’d be in great trouble.
Although this Eldest Son seemed pretty nice, Qin Xiao still wasn’t sure what this person was like on the inside.
So he tried not to do anything. All he did was stay beside the Eldest Son. If he was in danger, it wouldn’t be too late to help him.
The Tusun riders killed two of the Eldest Son’s men, and after the group split into two, no one knew who’s still alive. Therefore, the Eldest Son was full of hatred against these Tusun riders. His attacks were fast and fierce, showing them no mercy.
Several Tusun riders had the courage to actually fight back, but they were no match against the Eldest Son. After killing multiple people, the majority of his body was already covered in blood. Behind him, Pang Yu and Zhao Yi were just as busy chopping off the heads of these riders.
After they had chased them for a long distance, there were only a few riders left. The Eldest Son knew that they had already won. He yelled, “Pang Yu, Zhao Yi, kill all of them! Wait no, leave one. I’m going to force everything out of his mouth.”
“Eldest Son, I killed nine. Let’s make it ten!” replied Pang Yu not far away from them, “I can brag on this for the rest of my life, haha!”
