Fatal Counterattack - Chapter 4: A Misunderstanding
“He’s dead…”
Cheng carefully removed his hand from the dead man’s writ and placed the flashlight aside. He turned around immediately and started studying the surroundings. Then, his eyes landed on Zhang Zichen, who was handcuffed on the ground.
“Do you want to explain yourself?”
“Explain? Explain what?”
Zhang Zichen raised his head and looked at Cheng’s eyes. This was how humans worked. When someone encountered a situation, yet did not know how to explain it very well, the more he or she tried to dodge the question, the more doubt others would have.
“Oh yeah? You’re so young, yet you don’t seem very nervous or scared at all after seeing a dead person.” Cheng became either more interested in Zhang Zichen or he grew more suspicious. Either way, his looks were full of questions.
“Is there a law saying someone must be nervous when they see a dead body?… Holy shit! Someone died! I’m so scared!…”
“Stop playing around! Name!” Cheng frowned as he yelled at Zhang Zichen.
“Zhang Zichen.”
“Age!”
“Twenty-two.”
“Why were you running when I was chasing you?”
“I don’t know you are a cop.”
“Are you by yourself?”
“Yes.”
“Job!”
“None.”
“Address!”
“The streets of SJZ City.”
“Stop fooling around! You think you’re very clever, aren’t you?!”
Listening to Zhang Zichen’s quick and fluent response, Cheng became more annoyed. Zhang Zicheng made it seem like being questioned by the police was an everyday thing.
“I’m telling the truth. I’m an orphan, and I live on the streets. If my address isn’t the streets, then where do I live? Your house? Oh, your single-person apartment doesn’t seem to have enough room for me to live in.”
Just like watching a net about to capture an unknowing prey, Zhang Zichen’s eyes grew brighter and brighter.
“What… What did you say?”
“Huh? Do you not live in a single-person apartment? And you don’t seem to get along well with your neighbors. Your family isn’t wealthy, and you have a little sister who dropped out of school. You, who had excellent grades, successfully entered the police force after graduating. With your brave and confident heart, you really wanted to make a difference in your world. Although you try to do things quick and clean, if you change your rash behaviors, I think you can do it.”
In addition to being dumbfounded, Cheng Ze could feel that the light in Zhang Zichen’s eyes was getting brighter and brighter.
Tap, tap tap tap. The faint sound of footsteps brought Cheng Ze back to reality.
“Kid! If I find out that you’ve been spying on me, I’ll teach you a lesson.”
Cheng Ze said viciously at Zhang Zichen, who was still lying on the floor.
“Cheng Ze!… Cheng Ze!.. Are you okay…?” A charming voice that sounded like a silver bell sounded from a distance.
With the sound of footsteps getting closer and closer, Zhang Zichen could faintly see another police approaching under the help of the flashlight. She was a… a beautiful lady… uh… a beautiful policewoman rushed over in a hurry.
“Also! You shut up for a while. I’ll ask you when we return to the station!” After hearing the voice, Cheng Ze turned his head and shouted at Zhang Zichen one more time.
However, Zhang Zichen just nodded his head with a lively expression and raised his eyebrows. It basically meant: I know.
Cheng Ze gritted his teeth and then signaled his location to several policemen who were arriving.
Zhang Zichen let out a sigh of relief after seeing Cheng Ze’s attention leaving him. If his hands weren’t handcuffed behind his back, he really wanted to rub the bridge of his nose.
Zhang Zichen suddenly smelled a fragrant smell as a person arrived beside Cheng Ze. Although the woman was wearing a police uniform, it didn’t cover up her graceful appearance. The hair in her cap had a few strands lying on the delicate face and her eyes were full of worriedness.
“Cheng Ze, are you okay? Are you hurt?”
She seemed really concerned as she asked anxiously. A few drops of sweat rolled down her cheeks and stopped to her tightly bitten lips.
“Sun Ke, I’m fine, don’t worry. Everyone, there’s a situation here!”
Two other cops quickly arrived as well. Cheng Ze gently took off Sun Ke’s hands on his shoulders and pointed towards the corpse with his chin.
“My gosh! Looks like Cheif Liu was right, he predicted that there would be something going on here.”
The other two police were also male, but they were slightly older. As soon as she spoke, all four policemen turned their attention towards the corpse.
“Brother Gang, no need. I already checked it, he’s dead,” said Cheng Ze.
Brother Gang, who just squatted down beside the corpse, pointed at something under the flashlight. “What’s up with him?”
Zheng Zichen’s eyes were blinded by the light again as the four policemen suddenly looked toward him.
“I think that while he was running away, he panicked and accidentally killed someone. I have already handcuffed him. We can find out the details when we get back to the station!”
